This year’s Well-Being Week In Law was another hit at Ogletree Deakins! Team members across the firm participated in initiatives throughout the week to promote well-being and take meaningful breaks from their busy days. Local offices hosted events including goat yoga, healthy breakfast bars, and relaxing craft activities. We hope that WWIL served as a time to relax, recharge, and learn new ways to practice well-being that can be used year-round. #ODProud #WWIL #wellbeingatwork

Karen Tynan and Robert Rodriguez, Sacramento shareholders and co-chairs of the firm's recently launched Workplace Violence Prevention Practice Group, sat down with Law360's Andrea Keckley to discuss the new group. "I think it's an issue that's on lawmakers' minds, it's an issue that's on workplaces' minds, so I think it's going to be a domino effect," said Robert. Legislation goes into effect at the start of July that will require California employers to have a comprehensive workplace violence plan laid out. Similar legislation focused on retail workers is under consideration in New York. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4bDQLO6 #employmentlaw #workplaceviolenceprevention

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division recently published new guidance clarifying employers’ obligations under federal labor laws as they pertain to use of automated systems and artificial intelligence. The guidance cautions that while such technologies have workplace benefits, human oversight is necessary to avoid results that violate federal labor laws. Ben Perry, Danielle Ochs, Keith Kopplin, and Zachary Zagger review compliance obligations and discuss next steps for employers: https://bit.ly/4aoJqkp #employmentlaw #AI #artificialintelligence #DOL #wageandhour

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Criminal Division recently launched a new pilot program to enable whistleblowers to avoid prosecution when they voluntarily report new information to federal law enforcement authorities about criminal conduct involving corporations. The DOJ’s new policies could increase the likelihood that employees will go directly to federal authorities before reporting such misconduct internally and may also potentially increase an employers’ potential liability. Mark Mallery and Zachary Zagger review the policies and discuss next steps for employers: https://bit.ly/44ud9qZ #employmentlaw #DOJ #workplaceinvestigations
