  • "Mental health is something we don't pay as much attention to as we should,” shares courageous donor mom Kim. “It's important to be kind and check in on people." She remembers how fiercely her daughter Becca loved and cared for others throughout her life. Given her generous and caring nature, it came as no surprise that Becca wanted to help others through organ donation. Be there. Be kind. Be like Becca. ❤️ If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. #MentalHealthAwareness #STACares 💙 💚

  • "Dr. Josette Armendariz-Batiste is a hero – saving lives during her life and saving lives after," says her daughter Megan. She remembers her best friend and mother as someone who lit up every room and was deeply loved throughout the Galveston community and beyond. Josette's legacy extends far and wide, from the many years she spent at The University of Texas Medical Branch to her decision to register as an organ donor. That selfless decision would ultimately save many lives and inspire others to do the same. Listen as Josette’s daughter shares more about her mom’s life and legacy at the link below: 📽️ https://lnkd.in/dA8gjiMS #DonateLife 💙 💚

  • The STA Foundation recently had the pleasure of presenting our annual Outlive Yourself Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations who have significantly contributed to the advancement of organ and tissue donation and STA's lifesaving mission. We were thrilled to honor Lisa Barker, who has tirelessly advocated for donation and transplantation since she received the gift of a lifesaving liver transplant 10 years ago. One of the most beautiful moments from the evening was when Lisa introduced Dawn, the mother of her heroic donor and someone she now considers part of her own own family. Together, they honored Dawn's daughter Courtney for the generous gift she made possible and the incredible bond which has forever united their families. We are truly grateful to Lisa for her passion and efforts to honor Courtney's memory. We look forward to honoring our two other awardees, Donna Halstead and UT Tyler Health, later this year. #STAFoundation #OutliveYourselfAwards

  • At just two years old, Kimberly Ochoa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Her kidney function gradually worsened over time until she was eventually listed for a transplant. Thanks to a family on the other side of the world, Kimberly got the second chance at life she so desperately needed. While studying abroad in Arizona from South Korea, Yuna Kim was in a fatal car accident. Her family across the globe had an important decision to make. They knew Yuna was someone who loved people and would want to help others. They said “yes” to organ donation. Kimberly was a match and received the lifesaving gift of her kidney and pancreas. Years later, Kimberly received a letter from Yuna's family inviting her to South Korea. She met and hugged the family of her donor hero, who she now considers part of her own. She even recently had the chance to meet Yuna's sister Min who survived the same car accident that took her sister’s life. This emotional meet was a chance to honor Yuna’s legacy and the generous gift she left behind. #AAPIHeritageMonth #DonateLife 💙 💚 ✏️ 📸 Thank you to Donor Network of Arizona for allowing us to share this beautiful story.
