Founded in 1888 with just two deer and a pair of mountain lions, the Dallas Zoo is now the largest zoo in Texas and one of the city’s most beloved cultural destinations. Located just minutes from downtown, the Zoo welcomes more than one million guests annually and is home to over 2,000 animals from around the world. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), the Dallas Zoo is committed to providing the highest standard of animal care while serving as a global leader in wildlife conservation. Through partnerships with more than 40 organizations across 23 countries, the Zoo works to protect species and habitats both locally and internationally. The Dallas Zoo’s mission is Engaging People & Saving Wildlife. This mission guides everything the organization does, from animal care and conservation to education and community engagement. By creating meaningful connections between people and animals and sharing impactful conservation stories, the Zoo inspires guests of all ages to become wildlife stewards and take action for a healthier planet. Support from members, donors, and community partners makes this work possible. Every visit and every donation help provide exceptional care for animals, advance conservation efforts, and achieve the Zoo’s vision of Creating a Better World for Animals.
